Yorkshire Terriers Females |
![]() |
Some of the Yorkshire Terrier females in the past and the making of Goldenray Yorkies and what I have today. The quality has continued right down the line. This breed can be very difficult to get the type of dog you want since there has been suChampion
diversity in the past years. It comes to you trying to create what you want from what you have started with. The quality of the female is of prime importance to consistenly get good dogs. One of the biggest problems with toy dogs is the need for ceasaraen sections on occasion or even more often in some lines with more whelping problems. The biggest problem now is the times. People have become more educated about the importance of yearly checkups and that is a vet's bread and butter and I don't think they see the need for having breeders anymore. Of course they're not considering that without breeders eventually there would not be any dogs or cats for them to administer to, but this is a very real problem today. Before you ever even consider that first litter you need to check to see if your vet will be on 24 hour call for you that last week of pregnancy in case of an emergency. It takes a lot of devotion to be involved with breeding and showing dogs so it needs to be something that you investigate all the different parts of the sport.

If looking for that first female to show, it will take time to be offered a quality female, but with persistence and showing the exhibitors you are talking to that you are serious and dedicated to learning everything there is about the breed, someone will finally give you a chance with one of their dogs. It does take time but is well worth the time and effort you've put into it and hopefully at the same time have established a lifelong friendship with someone that may also become one of your mentors. Thankful for having them and never forgetting that they not only contributed to the line, but most importantly were my beloved pets first.
