Yorkie Obedience school or agility classes are one of the best ways to train your Yorkie. It will help form a special and unique bond between you. Find a good obedience school near you. I recommend using one that has an instructor that participates in obedience events at AKC shows as this is someone that really knows and understands the workings of a dog's mind to better help you to train your dog. The best place to start checking for a good obedience class or agility class for you and your dog is to contact your local all breed kennel club. If you're having a problem finding the local club name, you will be able to filter down through AKC's site for the area you live in to get a club name. Your local all breed kennel club should have the resources to direct you to a good training facility.
They are actually good candidates for both obedience or agility training as they are eager to please their owners. Like anything though, it's very important to have a well bred dog because you do need one with superb temperament and smart. The thing with agility is the dogs do really love the whole thing, going through tunnels and jumping hurdles. I think for a Yorkshire Terrier, with their natural hunting instinct, it challenges them, yet at the same time with them being so much like a kid, they really love the playground.

"CH Goldenray Dawn's Noble Faith NJP, NAJ, NJC"
Faith is everything a Yorkie should be, beautiful, smart and loyal.
What a bond these 2 have. Faith in the agility rings. You can see
more of her at Champions or Pet Gallery.
Obedience or Agility Yorkies do quite well in competitions at AKC shows and as you can see from the agility pictures here, Faith is having a ball. Her owner has made this a fun experience for her and she looks forward to the events as something that also gives her extra time with her owner.

Make sure when you are doing your research on obedience and agility classes that you find one that trains with positive reinforcement. There is no need for a prong collar on a toy dog that some types of classes use. You want a class that trains by rewarding the dog with treats when your puppy is doing what you ask of it. Positive reinforcement training is the only way to train dogs as far as I'm concerned. You want a happy dog that is enjoying what they are doing and this type of training will enable that. Agility classes are just as much fun for you, the family and the dog, and in fact I think are more fun for all of you, so be sure to check those out too.
If you are looking for a fun sport that the whole family can be involved with, then the sport of agility or obedience is something you would all enjoy. It's great for the kids to be involved with the training and the accomplishments that will come as your companion learns what is needed. The dog will love the special time one on one with their trainer and overall makes for a wonderful companion as well.
